Crystal was apprenticed by Sarah Miller in May 2016 and graduated to a junior artist as of December 2016. Crystal would describe her style as whimsical. She loves drawing colorful animals, insects, and images that tell a story. The aesthetic can be described as neo-traditional with new school elements.
“I developed a love for art at a very young age. What started with doing paint by numbers in my grandfather’s studio, quickly turned into doing volunteer work with face painting, doing caricature at the mall, and helping paint murals all over Pittsburgh. Once I was old enough to get tattoo, I was hooked. I went to college for graphic design at PTI and graduated with honors. However, graphic design did not make my heart sing. With bills coming in I found myself working in an office job downtown. I continued to sell paintings and pick up art gigs on the side. After being laid off years later, I decided to follow my dreams and become an artist. I knew it would be a hard road but I needed to do something my life that I could be proud of. Despite the pressure you are under as an artist, it was the best choice of my life. “
